Why it exists
I lost my own custom sections to a theme update. So I fixed it.
I'm Sinan Sancar. I build Shopify things for a living, and SectionGuard started with a bad morning of my own: I'd hand-coded a set of custom sections straight into a client's live theme, everything looked right — then a theme update landed and the work was simply gone. Rebuilt by hand, twice, before I stopped blaming myself and started blaming the architecture.
The problem was never the code. It was where the code lived. Anything written into the theme's .liquid files is on borrowed time — the next update overwrites it. The file-based section apps I tried didn't help, because they copy their .liquid into the theme too, and inherit the exact same trap.
So I built the tool I wanted to exist. SectionGuard keeps every section in the app and renders it through a single Theme App Extension block — nothing of yours ends up in the theme files, so a theme update has nothing of yours to erase. That's the whole idea, and it's the one problem the app is built to solve well.
I'm building it in public as MADE IT: shipping in the open, writing about what works and what breaks, and answering support myself. No growth team, no queue — when you email support, you reach the person who wrote the code.

The app installs without the write_themes scope and never writes into your theme files. You can update, switch or redesign your theme without touching the app.
