They copy .liquid files into your theme using the write_themes scope, which is exactly why sections added that way inherit the theme-update trap. SectionGuard never writes into your theme at all — your sections live in the app and render through the extension block, so there is nothing of yours inside the theme files for an update to overwrite. We don't request the write_themes scope in the first place.
